Tesco Bags of Help award

Thank you for to everyone who voted for the Cherry Hinton Festival to win a Tesco Bags of Help grant. I am pleased to tell you that the Festival has received an award of £1,000! This will go towards funding Festival Day on Saturday 16th September. The Festival Day team are busy planning some great attractions – and thanks to the generosity of Tesco and our other sponsors we can offer all the Festival attractions for FREE. So please save the date – Saturday 16th September!

We have been shortlisted for a public vote in Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative!

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales. The scheme sees three community groups and projects in each of around 200 Tesco regions awarded grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 2 to 28 January on who should receive the £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 awards.

Please vote in Tesco stores 2 to 28 January to help the Cherry Hinton Festival secure a Tesco Bags of Help grant!

Day 4 – Phoenix Tuesday Club, Friends with Disabilities & the Allotment Tour

Even though it was the hottest September day since 1911, lots of people turned out to the Phoenix Tuesday Club at St Andrew’s Church Centre this afternoon to enjoy a hot cup of  tea with friends old and new. The club members enjoyed a talk about Antarctica from Cherry Hinton local Rosie Feull, who has visited the continent.

Over the road at the Village Leisure Centre, the Friends with Disabilities meeting was in full swing, chaired by former Mayor Gerri Bird. If you’d like to find out more about Friends with Disabilities, they have taken a stall on Festival Day so come and say ‘hello’!

It was the perfect evening for the Bat Walk! In warm weather there are insects. Where there are insects there are bats! The bat walkers loved to hear (with their bat detectors) and see the three species of bat that were flying around – helped by Iain from the Wildlife Trust BCN.

First day of the 2016 Festival

We had a great first day – starting with 52 Stories at Cherry Hinton Library with author / illustrator Alison Limentani. Alison read from her book How Much Does a Ladybird Weigh? and the children enjoyed some ladybird arts and crafts.
